This is the most recent bed/bedding addition to our home.
You might notice the Adele Champagne Shams at the back of this bed as well (this picture was taken before the ones in the last post).
Our Revelle rep came in bearing loads of new samples and when I saw these dove sheets - I knew they were what I was after.
{ I'd been looking for sheets to replace a set of jersey knit ones that were.. lets just say done.
Have you ever slept on Jersey Knit sheets? They are really as comfortable as a t-shirt - I remember one episode of Oprah where she was ranting on about them.
I could rant on about them myself now having heeded her claim. But it was time for new ones.}
[we have new ones in stock and they are worth looking at]

The top of the bed is a Quilted Linen Coverlet from Bella Notte in Sable probably my favourite piece of bedding in the house right now. It's a perfect fit!
Since this picture was taken I've replaced the Adele shams with a white and multi colour Revelle Paisley pair. This new look is based on the picture below.
I love it and wanted to incorporate a bit of paisley if I could. :)

This is really a bit of a risk - this sharing business - putting it all out there for judging.
There's always something we want to change and for me in this room it's the wall colour. It will happen at some point but for now it's only a want.

I thought I would go out on a limb today and share my own winter bedroom.. It's been 3 years now that I've worked at olive and elle. Over that time I've been able to test out my style and preferences on all of you.
For me at home creamy tones are my go to.
So as you'll notice this bed has a whole lot of that going on.
Just before Christmas I decided that my Bella Notte linen sheets just weren't warm enough so on went my Dormisette flannels. So Cozy now.
This bed has happened over time - the Adele Champagne shams were a christmas gift from my Mother In Law a few years ago. {I know eh - she's very generous}
The Quilted linen throw pillows I pretty much decided I had to have after seeing in another store where Bella Notte is sold.
The front and center little linen one in the middle was a spur of the moment, Linda was ordering and asked if I wanted anything kind of purchase. I love all of them and they get moved in between the three bedrooms in the house in any given season.
I know it's not very bold or colourful but I find I like options and these purchases have allowed for that.
There are a few other little olive and elle finds on the bedside tables you might notice. The balls were a gift from Linda, I love those balls (still some in store if they are something you love too) and then the little Fringe tray is a pretty little place to put little bits.

A few months ago we came to a decision.. we had to change up our winter advertisements from our usual Bella Notte beds to include more of what we are about.

"We are more than just a bedding store"

After considering our direction we decided to contact one of our sweetest shoppers and see if she was interested in a photo session.

We dressed her in a Bella Lulu Tutu and Baby Wisp fascinators, behind are our Thomas Paul decorative pillows and in the final image she's wearing a Filson Mackinaw hat.

Would just like to Thank her for model behaviour and a really fun afternoon!

I'm a big fan of roses and this soap has that quintessential rose scent ~ it's lovely.

I can never be warm enough so the garneau slippers are perfect for me.

One of our favourite new companies, Pink Door from Vancouver. The packaging is stunning and the product divine. Linda's favourite scent is Sparkle, a combination of citrus, cucumber, jasmine, pineapple, blackberry and champagne. We carry soap, bath salts and candles...all products are small batch and numbered and signed by the artist. Perfection!

Hiding on the right hand side of this photo, Como decanter and glasses from Roost. For some reason, this platter with linear fish image calls out to me.

This is precisely why crystal on a chandelier is worth every penny ~ look at the light refraction all over that wall. So beautiful! I've loved this chandy a long time!

Last Fall we fell in all sorts of love with Revelle's 'Paisley' a sateen 300 thread count duvet. This Fall they've come back with a light wash version with a bit of warmth. 'Villa Mist' has caught our eye this season and we think it will do wonders for a quiet bedroom retreat!

Warm Thoughts

It has happened, summer has ended. I know this because I am sitting with my second cup of coffee of the morning, decorating magazines scattered about, flannel robe on.......no coffee on the deck this Sunday
morning!

However, September in the Okanagan is one of my favourite times of the year.....warm days, cool evenings, lots of fruits and veggies being harvested, grapes ready to be picked...aahh.

The season is changing in the shop as well. Throws, jammies, candles, and cozy bedding, all of these products, and more, are arriving on a daily basis right now (Kandace and I spent 2 days pricing Christmas last week). We are armed and ready.

To start off the season we are planning a fun evening of bed making in the store on Thursday, October 6th @ 7pm. We'll explain the benefits of using down and cotton, talk about coverlet vs duvet cover and the benefits of silk duvets, while we put together beds using products from St. Geneve, Dwell, Revelle and Bella Notte. If you would like to join us, tickets are on sale at the store, with partial proceeds going to Sun FM's Have a Heart Telethon. Should be lots of fun. Nighcaps and bedtime snacks will be provided!

We were asked by the Kelowna Art Gallery to assist with decorating for their annual fundraiser Seeing Red and White, October 22nd. We are happy to help out for such a good cause.

Lots happening in Novermber as well...will update you at a later date.

Our front window displays suitable decor for both... When arranging the store last week it was hard to pick just which section I'd like to do.
in the end I was assigned this and boy was it fun!
{not shown but probably the neatest things up there are battery powered willow lit branches}
34 little buds bursting with white light ~ neat on a fireside mantle or entryway console!

tutus!

so, we know it's only the middle of november, but, CHRISTMAS! we worked like little elves for two days, changing the store around completely, adding glitz and glitter to every nook and cranny (and went home covered in it). and if we do say so ourselves, it looks beautiful - and it seems you think so, too! we had a very busy day yesterday at our annual christmas open house. honestly, if you weren't there yesterday, you should probably come down soon, because things were flying off the shelves. a few of our favourites that are sure not to last very long: handmade marshmallows and s'mores from butter bakery in vancouver, paddywax library candles, votivo's christmas candles, packaged in beautiful silver hollywood regency-esque boxes, colourful tutus for little babies, and everything from our rustic front window.

fabulous wool throws and wraps from stansborough out of new zealand. these totally eco friendly products are created from natural grey wool from a rare purebred sheep with fine soft lustrous silky blue/grey wool. produced on historic 1890's looms or knitted/felted with the greatest care, treat yourself to a look/feel of these beautiful pieces.

KAS bedding from australia - beautifully bright and fun patterns, complete with accent pillows and throws. a fun, affordable addition to our bedding line.

funky new lighting from nuevo including a dramatic large dome light, visible in our window.

though this is hardly an adequate photo, check out the newest creation from our resident table master. reclaimed fir planks are perched securely atop repurposed pipes that form a pair of triangles at their crux. it's a really a beautiful statement of craftsmanship. and, though it will comfortably seat eight, it's great for small spaces as the base of the table takes up very little visual space. we're totally enamoured of it.

summer is right around the corner (though you'd hardly know it by the weather) and we've brought some gorgeous original artwork into the store to celebrate the sunniest season. these works by vancouver artist gina miller (visit her website here) were recently shown at leone for the opening of her show "feel the essence, hear the bloom." extremely colourful and mixed media in nature, the edited collection she has leant to us ranges from $690-$3600. she's a pretty great lady and it shows in her paintings. if you find yourself downtown, drop by and take a look!
